Transfer driver's license (OUT-OF-PROVINCE AND INTERNATIONAL LICENCES)

All driver’s licence exchanges must be done in person.


CANADIAN PROVINCE OR TERRITORY

We will require your current driver’s license and proof of your Alberta residence.


PROOF OF RESIDENCE DOCUMENTS (AT LEAST ONE OF THESE WILL BE REQUIRED)


THE FOLLOWING ARE ACCEPTABLE DOCUMENTS:


  • Current (less than 90 days) credit card/bank statement or cell phone bills received by Canada Post are acceptable
  • Apartment/house rental agreement from a third party property management company
  • Mortgage or land/title/property assessment documents in your name
  • Letter from an employer, signed and dated, on company letterhead. This must be from an Alberta-based company, and must state that the client is physically working in Alberta. Letter cannot be accepted of over 15 days old
  • Most recent personal tax assessment are acceptable if received by Canada Post


NOTE – For license classes 1,2, and 4 an Alberta medical is required. Most doctors have the required forms or you can download the form.


FOREIGN TERRITORIES WITH RECIPROCAL AGREEMENTS

Alberta has Reciprocal Licensing Agreements with the following countries in addition to all Canadian jurisdictions and territories. The agreements apply to class 5 licenses only (and class 6 in some cases). For all other classes you must pass the appropriate tests. Refer to the Government of Alberta License Exchange for details.

  • Germany
  • Japan
  • Republic of Korea
  • Scotland
  • Switzerland
  • Taiwan (Republic of China)
  • United Kingdom (UK) of Great Britain
  • United States
  • Wales

We will require your current driver’s license and proof of your Alberta residence.


PROOF OF RESIDENCE DOCUMENTS (AT LEAST ONE OF THESE WILL BE REQUIRED)

  • Work visa, student visa, or permanent resident card
  • Any document mailed to you at your Alberta address from the Federal, Provincial, or Municipal government
  • Any recent major credit card or bank account statement with your name and Alberta address
  • Any recent utility bill addressed to you at your Alberta address


OTHER FOREIGN TERRITORIES

If you are new to Alberta and have come from any country not listed you will be required to start as a NEW Driver in Alberta.
